Spanish
Spanish Dr. Montessori identified the period from 0-6 as the critical period for acquiring language. As such, Spanish is introduced weekly through simple words, music, games and other activities designed for the pre-school child.
Art and Music
Creative and performing arts bring excitement to our learning environment by reflecting the seasonal, cultural and historical themes of our academic program. Art activities guide students in translating emotions, nature and world culture into a wide variety of artistic media. Weekly music instruction cultivates a love and understanding of music and creative movement. Students are introduced to rhythm, song and dance.
Movement
Movement classes allow the children to explore the physical attributes of their bodies and experiment with a wide variety of physical abilities. Movement lessons within the pre-school curriculum strive to enhance each child's physical growth and development. Children work to develop useful practical skills such as eye-hand coordination, eye-foot coordination, balance, strength and agility.
Computer Skills
Computers are located in all of the classrooms. Students practice their language and math skills with educational software.
Extra Curriculum
Children may also enroll in dance, outdoor sports, and crafts for an additional fee. These extra programs are offered after the academic day (3:00 pm and later).
Summer Program
The summer months bring a change of weather, schedule, pace and activities. The SJM Summer program follows the same daily schedule as the one followed during the academic year with a greater emphasis on cultural studies and physical development.
During the summer the children spend more time enjoying outdoor activities, music and movement, sports and arts and crafts projects. Our staff of certified Montessori teachers conduct all summer classes. The program is based around a weekly theme, such as the study of water forms, and all lessons and activities grow from that common theme.
